Weeds

This picture doesn't do my garden justice - as it is a month old now. But as I see my little plants then - and picture my garden now (need to get a new pic) - I'm amazed at the growth.

I've spent now on two different occasions and several hours collectively trying to WEED my poor plot - overtaken by runaway grass and weeds!

So on Wednesday, as I spend precious time away from my family, on my hands and knees in the hot sun - in my horribly overgrown, weedy plot....I begin to relate my spiritual garden to my actual one.

God takes his time to plant his precious seeds of truth into my life. He waters it with his Word, sermons, songs, prayers. But along my sinful walk of life I pick up weeds...or weeds tilled into the ground where seeds are planted...start to come up - grow - overtake God's garden of my life.

If I was dedicated/meticulous about weeding these sins as the shoots appeared, how much easier would it be to get rid of them? How bigger would my plants grow and bear fruit? How much richer and larger would my fruit be?

I so often neglect to "weed" my life of little sins, until they become too big to neglect - until they start choking out my godly growth and fruit. I lie to myself that if I let them grow a little I'd be able to tell better if they truly are weeds and not misplaced seeds - when I KNOW a seed was not planted there - I KNOW it must be a weed. My weeds of half-truths are shown as they truly are - ugly, thorny, painful, deep-rooted WEEDS that choke out, over-take, and eventually kill my seed/plant all together!

This analogy is fresh in my mind and I see it in a very new light as I'm struggling with my own garden. I shared it with a friend and she immediately said "you have to blog this". Well, ok, I'm blogging it :)

But the truth is still the same - God is planting! He is watering! We must WEED! It's a sometime difficult, time-consuming, painful task, but it's so rewarding. Think of all the plants and growth and FRUIT will bear!!

*Lord, forgive me for my laziness, idleness, selfishness in my spiritual garden. Thank you for planting and watering me. Help me, Father, to remember the importance of "weeding" out the sinful thorns in my life. Tend to my growth so I may bear beautiful fruit! Amen~

**All I can say is that I struggle to have joy. I know joy comes from the Lord - and I ask for joy. But when your heart is not joyful, how do you still show others joy? Sometimes I think it's wrong for me to struggle so much. Other times I wish God had me a different person - more joyful, optimistic, a general happier attitude. I feel a lot of times I'm melancholy - quiet - stand in the corner type of person.

Asking God for joy is not the same as asking God to make you someone He never intended you to be. It's asking for him to impart his character on you - something you can NEVER get on your own.

Praying and hoping my days will be filled with smiles and laughter. But even in the trying times, I'm praying my *heart will be filled with joy when my smiles and laughter are not there.

Scott update

Thought I'd post on here too...have been updating facebook.

Scott's been having a lot of signs of diabetes and had an appt Monday - that showed he definitely did. His sugars were really high and he was put on medicine. Well the dr. said if he threw up to call him...and he did yesterday.

That along with bloodwork coming back with crazy electrolyte imbalance sent him to the ER. The test results there showed he was in DKA (diabetic ketone acidosis) - VERY BAD - and the decision was made. He was admitted to the ICU on insulin IV drip. Hopefully he'll be discharged today or tomorrow.

We'll keep everyone updated as we hear the news.

I need to think more on how to bless and use my life for others. I'm such a selfish being and in that sin I can live the day out to meet primarily my needs. But in my love for the Lord and my family (and others) I MUST learn to become unselfish- putting them first!

What a great reminder to "run the race that is set before us"! I feel like lately I've walked it, and maybe sometimes jogged it, but haven't been all out sprinting/running this race God has given me. Very convicting!

A Mother's Heart

As a girl I dreamt of the day I would hold my baby in my arms - and time would stand still. God has blessed me with with that day TWICE!

I now dream of wiping all my children's tears, kissing all their booboos, picking them up every time they fall.

But then there's reality...

I leave to the sound of my toddler crying

I get a call with the sound of my baby screaming in the background

I hear the strain in my husband's voice

My Heart Breaks

And then I remember that I need to LET GO! I am not in control. I will never be able to make that dream come true - God makes it so...that I will trust in Him.

I do enjoy being a nurse! That too has been a childhood dream. A new baby always throws me for a loop in that regard. And then I think of the Proverbs 31 woman...a working mother! She was continually busy. She cared for her children, home, husband...and provided an income.

I never knew how my heart would grow...ache...love...break...all at the same time!

Part Two

We got to the hospital and I waddled slowly to the elevator and to the L&D triage floor. It was super busy so I had to sit on a desk chair in the hall by a room- waiting for the room to be cleaned. Once hooked up the monitor showed I was having very regular contractions about every 3 minutes and lasted about a minute each. Most of them were uncomfortable but not super painful. We were secretly praying they'd keep up so we could be admitted and have our little one!

The doctor finally came in and decided to check me...1-2 cm's! YAY!!! "you're staying" were the happiest words we heard! So the nurse opened wide the IV, only to have my hand swell up like a golf ball and had to get another stick to start the

IV over. Once all geared up we wheeled out to the OR. Scott had to stay out in the hall while they got me all settled.

Ok, this next part is a long story in itself, but let's just say it took like 4 tries for the spinal to work. At one point I was crying and hyperventilating at the same time - WOW!!

Laying behind that big blue drape...feeling anxious and excited...jabbering away at Scott and the doctors - what are you doing now, what do you see, what's going on? hahaha!! With David I was so exhausted I didn't say hardly anything during the section - almost even fell asleep. It took them a little longer to get to her since they had to get through some adhesions from the previous section (which the dr said were minimal). They finally got to her and told Scott to look - to tell us what

the baby was - surprise!

IT'S A GIRL!!

Scott went over to the warmer to take pictures and be with her. The doctors then felt inside the uterus to see if it was odd shaped or had a septum that caused the babies to be breeched - NOPE! oh well.

After seeing her they took her to the nursery to get washed up. I saw her again in recovery.

It was a wonderful experience, great staff, great hospital (except for the spinal).

Beautiful baby, beautiful day, beautiful family! THANK YOU LORD!!!

Piper's Story

PART ONE

On the Friday before she was born, I went into work like normal. I didn't feel "right". Towards the end of my shift I was really sore and crampy, so I went home a couple hours early. Thankfully I was off that weekend. I still felt "off" and crampy, especially at night - but oh well.

Monday was a good day. By 1pm though, as I was starting to get things together and get ready for work I was feeling sore and crampy again. I thought that was strange, especially since I wasn't doing much. Had a talk to Scott and thought I'd try to go into work and see if it passed. By the time I had gotten to my floor and was starting to get things ready to start my med pass, I was feeling hot, then cold, and so crampy. I thought "uh oh" since I again hadn't even done much yet. I called my supervisor and told her what was up but that I'd try to push through it and see how it went. Halfway through my med pass, as I'm bending over my med cart and stopping every few steps to catch a breath, I decide I had to go home.

I called my OB and the nurse said unless I had timed the contractions for an hour to not even come in to be checked out - which sounded wrong since I'm breeched and a repeat c-section. I called my supervisor and thankfully there was an extra nurse that night - NEVER happens! I called Scott and told him I was coming home and what the nurse said.

Once home mom Logan sent me straight to bed...to time contractions. I got through maybe three before I decided to call the OB on-call. She said to definitely come in. So Scott and I packed our bags - hoping this was it and we wouldn't be coming home again without our little one!

Last Tuesday was my OB appt. We had an ultrasound that showed the baby measured great, plenty of fluid, and BREECHED!

So we scheduled our version for this coming Thursday.

For those who don't know what a version involves, I'll describe below:

Set-up in the recovery room - across from the OR. If something goes wrong I'll be wheeled right over to the OR for a c-section

Monitor baby for a little while

IV fluids with a muscle relaxant

Ultrasound to confirm breech

Slathered up and "man-handled" to push/turn the baby

Ultrasound again to see if it worked

Even if it doesn't work, monitored for an hour afterwards to make sure I'm not contracting or having complications.

On bed-rest for the day and off work.

Suppose to be sore for days.

If it doesn't work, we scheduled the c-section for 3/15.

Please keep us in your prayers on Thursday - just that it'll work, and if not, definitely that baby and I will stay healthy/safe!

I feel like I could just re-post my post from David's pregnancy... but I won't. :)

Last month I slipped on our stairs and fell pretty hard on my bum. Well, when I got checked out, they found the baby had turned breech. Next week is the "big" ultrasound to see if my fluid level is still good and the baby isn't engaged.

If all is "good", we'll go the following week for an inversion. Can't believe we're getting this close! Baby will be here before we know it! I'm in the sore, heartburn, can't breath stage - so ready to meet our newest Logan!!!!!!

Pray all is ideal for a VBAC. But if not we're so at peace with another c-section. Just thought I'd post a little preggo update.

Texts to Pray for Our Children

Recently a good friend shared with me these verses that he and his wife have prayed for their two daughters (now teens) since they were babies. I find them very helpful and have included them in my prayer folder for my children. I thought I’d pass them along to you as well. (Thanks, Chris!)

That Jesus will call them and no one will hinder them from coming.
Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people, but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” And he laid his hands on them and went away. (Matthew 19:13-15)

That they will respond in faith to Jesus’ faithful, persistent call.
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)

That they will experience sanctification through the transforming work of the Holy Spirit and will increasingly desire to fulfill the greatest commandments.
And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself." (Matthew 22:37-39)

That they will not be unequally yoked in intimate relationships, especially marriage.
Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14)

That their thoughts will be pure.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. (Philippians 4:8)

That their hearts will be stirred to give generously to the Lord's work.
All the men and women, the people of Israel, whose heart moved them to bring anything for the work that the Lord had commanded by Moses to be done brought it as a freewill offering to the Lord. (Exodus 35:29)

That when the time is right, they will GO!

David Update - CAST!

Ok here's the explanation:

He was breached for over 10 weeks. They think he crossed his ankles - above his head for that amount of time....and well, now he likes to keep his right foot in that position. When he was born his toes liked to rest on his shin. It's gone down since then and he can put weight on it and move it all around, but not to the degree they're comfortable leaving it at. It also likes to point out which most people notice first.

I did home therapy for a month - just stretching it and moving it around. At our appointment on Thursday the doctor - a pediatric foot specialist - thought the next best thing would be to cast it. Better than to wait and maybe have to have surgery or break the bone if he got older.We go back weekly for a new cast and repositioning.

The time-frame? He said 4weeks or more depending on his response. We can't bathe him - which is his favorite time of the day - only sponge bathe him. This actually might be good since his skin has started to get really dry this winter. And with his toes pointing down he can't really stand too well. His knee is also at a bent angle so laying on his stomach is difficult. He was just starting to crawl and he definitely still gets around but not as easily as before- lugging the big cast around.

Oh did I forget to mention it's all the way up his thigh? PHEW.... But I got to love how resilient kids are! He barely even notices anymore - which is the biggest blessing. I think we (mostly meaning me) are having the harder time - just feeling badly when we look at it.

God is good and we are so thankful for insurance, good doctors, and a healthy baby! What more could we ask for?! :)Thank you all for your concern and prayers - it'll definitely build patience in us as he struggles to sleep (since he's a tummy sleeper - I know!) and gets frustrated w/ his cast every now and then.

As soon as I get more batteries (oops) I'll post a picture for you all to get a better understanding. :)

Recipe Swap

Well I didn't receive too much interest in the recipe swap but for the two who are interested I'll be passing that info along. I'll also be posting some cost efficient recipes every once in awhile.

Here's a "one pot meal":

Ingredients:
2 Chicken Breasts
2 Cups frozen Broccoli Pieces
1 box Chicken Flavored Rice-a-roni (I use the target brand)
1-2 Tbsp Olive Oil
S&P to taste
Garlic as needed
1/2 - 1 cup shredded cheese

Directions:
Chop Chicken and brown in oil - with S&P and garlic. Remove. In same pot follow rice directions. Add chicken and broccoli at start of simmer of rice. When done stir in cheese. You can do this with any veggie or meat. I do the same thing with sausage and potatoes (instead of rice).

This can be appetizer, main course, home-made beverage, dessert, or any combo of them all. Again your recipe needs to be under $15 and not just for one person.

TO START US ALL OFF..........
here's my under $15 recipe:

Chicken Pot Pie
Ingredients:
1 box refrigerated pie pastry (2count)
1 lg can chicken - chunk and drained
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can mixed vegetables - drained
salt and pepper - to taste
1 egg - scramble, egg wash

Directions:
Preheat to 350 degrees. Bring pastry to almost room temperature. Mold 1st pastry into pie pan. Mix chicken, soup, vegetables, and S&P together. Pour into pie pan. Place 2nd pastry on top, fork or pinch to seal edges. Trim excess as needed. Egg wash top. Slit top to vent. Cook for 20 minutes or until brown. Cover edges with tin foil if needed. Let stand for 5 or so minutes. ENJOY!

For a more "home-made" pie, replace canned goods w/ boiled chicken and fresh vegetables - may need to boil vegetables a little first. Also good to skip pastries and just add bisquick biscuit dough on top!

Long over-due Update

As I sit on my bathroom floor typing this....David is beside me in his Johnny Jumper. Unfortunately the only place in our apartment w/ door frames are the bedrooms and bathroom. And when I'm out of sight - the screams begin. Thus, me on floor in bathroom! hahaha!! Oh and I don't ever do this but Scott's asleep and I'm sure screams don't make a good dream!

Yesterday was ONE OF THOSE DAYS.... you know how that is - nothing seems to go right. All started Thursday night - with a headache. I had MOPS Friday morning, so no sleep that morning. And by midday - the migraine began. I did get to sleep a half hour or so, but was awaken (thankfully) by Scott's call - telling me he was downstairs to pick me up - oops. Then off to the pediatric appointment for David' 6 month check-up. (ok, and now as I type David has managed to break a seemingly unbreakable toy??)
So 2 shots and many head throbbing screams later - we're on our way home. Can you say RAGING migraine by now?? grrr......
So now I'm incapacitated....to say the least! The worst migraine in like 4 years!!! Head throbbing, nausea, can't see straight, weak, shaky......on and on.
And here my Wonder-Husband swoops in! :)

He made dinner (for us both but I couldn't eat it), changed - fed - bathed - put to bed David, rubbed my in-a-vice head, and put me to bed. Isn't he the best? :)

So now I'm up with David while he gets much needed sleep!!

Now for a David update:
(and now back from carrots, bottle, and down for nap)
His appointment went well. He got his flu shot, DTP shot, and rototeq stuff...cried but did well. He's in the 30th percentile for weight: 16#5oz and 70th percentile for height: 26". The doctor said he wasn't concerned about his weight - that at this age genetics kick in and he's fine. As long as his height stays up he's fine.
He's not sitting up, crawling, or getting teeth yet - although he tries to sit up and falls over, gets up on his hands and knees but doesn't go anywhere, and chews on everything. He has found his voice - screams all the time, happy or sad.
The doctor did say to try to get him to babble since he doesn't really do that yet - he makes lots of noises but no "baba", "dada", "gaga". He wasn't concerned but we should be hearing this start in the next couple months at the latest.
We had a referral for his foot last week. His right foot points out a little so we have to exercise it a little. They said if it gets worse he might need a cast but we're hoping it'll fix itself. We're not worried and neither are the doctors!
He laughs when we laugh, gives us open mouth slobbery kisses, rolls all over the living room, grabs at everything - and for that matter chews on everything, loves fruits and some veggies (NOT PEAS - as I hear his father didn't either), learning how to sip from a sippy cup - still shocks him when something comes out :) , and so much more.

Scott:
Scott's taking 2 classes this semester - enjoying having at least one of them with some buddies. We're drawing near to the end of this degree - hoping to be done by May. He's also working part-time at the church. That has been such a blessing, especially since he can make up his own hours. His schedule has enabled him to be home a lot of the time - which I love! :) It's also made it harder for him to get some school work done - I've had to learn that just because he's home doesn't mean we can talk and hang out! hahaha!!!

Me:
I'm doing well. Still working night shift but have adjusted pretty well. This week was bad on my sleep schedule - thus the migraine yesterday. But overall it's going well.
I'm enjoying every other Thursday mornings at the Women's Bible Study at church and the other week Friday's at MOPS. It has been so awesome learning from the older women and then connecting w/ women in my situation.
I've also enjoyed being close to Katie Barker and Julie Baylor - my blessings from the Lord! After this year I may not be as close to them (in proximity) and I'm savoring every moment I get! :) Our paths don't cross that often but their encouragement and prayers are never taken for granted! Also, I've loved seeing Julie grow baby Madison! Can't wait to meet her!

Family:
Lord willing, the next year will be quite a change for us. Scott will be done with school, so we're looking for God's leading for our future - some sort of church plant or pastoral position. So prayers for further leading would be greatly appreciated!

We love you all and are blessed for such friends and family as you all!
